Is your workout routine getting a little stale? These 10 tips are sure to get you moving and motivated
Just Dance. If you are bored with your regular workout routine, try something new! Zumba is a dance-inspired fitness program that combines aerobic exercise with high energy-Latin rhythms. Zumba focuses on all the major muscle groups such as abs, legs, glutes, and arms. Find a class in your area or buy the DVD and dance off the pounds at home.
Make a Splash. Do more than just swim laps at your fitness club’s pool. Work out with water dumbbells and fan paddles to tone your arms, chest and core muscles. Check your local pool, fitness club or YMCA for energizing water aerobics classes.
Melt Stress with Martial Arts. Tai chi is a martial art that combines stability and strength building movements with a focus on reducing stress and tension. Not only is it relaxing, but it also burns a fair amount of calories.
Don’t Skip the Stretch. If you are sore after your workout, your body is reminding you that you need to stretch before and after working out. Stretching is an integral part of a good workout and is a must in order to protect and preserve your muscles. Stretching properly before and after a workout can prevent injury, decrease muscle soreness, and increase your overall muscle performance.
Jumpstart your Workout. Liven up your cardio routine with a simple yet effective exercise. Jumping rope doesn’t cost as much as a gym membership and you can easily take a jump rope with you when you travel. No more excuses!
Stay in Shape with Water. Drinking water before, during and after a workout will prevent dehydration, muscle fatigue, and possible injury. Don’t bother with sports drinks or “energy” drinks that contain added sugar or caffeine. Plain water is the best for your body.
Work it out Together. Working out with a friend can be fun and motivational. Walk around the neighborhood with a friend or spouse in the evenings or bring a friend with you to the gym to help spot you on the weight bench.
Be a Player. There is no need to be inside a gym to get a great workout. Outdoor, team-centered sports are a great way to burn calories and get moving with your friends or family.
Have a Ball. A stability ball is great for toning core muscles and strength. Instead of your regular chair at work, sit on a stability ball instead and you will sit up straighter and strengthen your core muscles at the same time.
Sweet Dreams. Don’t forget to get plenty of rest. It is essential to get 8 hours of sleep at night to refresh your mind and body and prepare for your next workout.
